Nomex® Physical Properties
Nomex® meta-aramid fiber is engineered for thermal protection, flame resistance, and dimensional stability. Unlike many synthetic fibers that soften or melt at high temperatures, Nomex® maintains its structure and integrity, making it ideal for applications where heat and flame exposure are concerns. It also resists abrasion and mechanical stress, with consistent performance over long service life.
Nomex® Resistance Guide
Meta-aramid fibers, such as Nomex®, exhibit excellent resistance to high temperatures & flame, maintaining their mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures. This heat resistance makes them suitable for applications in thermal insulation and protective clothing. Additionally, meta-aramid fibers demonstrate good chemical resistance, enabling them to withstand short-term exposure to acids, alkalis, and many organic solvents without significant degradation. Not advised for long-term chemical exposure.

Acid: Stable under most weak acidic environments.
Alkali: Generally compatible with mild alkalis.
Organic Solvent: Moderate degradation in Carbon Tetrachloride and Ethylene Glycol

Continuous Operating Temperature Range (°C): -196 to 204
Short Term Exposure (°C): 370
Degradation Temperature (°C): 427
Nomex® Meta-Aramid Performance Highlights
-
Thermal Stability: Maintains mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
-
Flame Resistance: Inherent meta-aramid structure resists ignition and burning.
-
Dimensional Integrity: Low shrinkage and stable under continuous heat stress.
-
Chemical Compatibility: Stable with many acids, alkalis, and solvents.
-
Insulative Properties: Good electrical and thermal insulation.
Moisture Resistance: Maintains performance in humid environments and resists many common industrial chemicals.
Durable & Long-Lasting: Resists wear and aging in high-temperature applications.
