Nomex® Meta-Aramid

Nomex® Meta-Aramid Fiber is a high-performance meta-aramid developed by DuPont™, known for its exceptional flame resistance, thermal stability, and dimensional integrity in high-temperature and hazardous environments. Nomex® is widely used in protective apparel, insulation, gaskets, seals, and other demanding industrial applications.

Nomex® Fiber from Rocket-Fibers is supplied as a continuous multifilament yarn, precision-wound on textile spools for easy handling and efficient processing. In addition to natural (undyed) yarns, Rocket-Fibers offers package-dyed Nomex® yarns to meet specific color, visibility, or identification requirements, while maintaining the inherent performance characteristics of the fiber.

Fibers are available in both sample and factory spool sizes. Bulk quantities are offered for commercial use, with additional fiber processing services such as twisting, braiding, and custom coating available upon request. Each order includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, verifying authenticity and full traceability of your fiber purchase.

Nomex® Physical Properties

Nomex® meta-aramid fiber is engineered for thermal protection, flame resistance, and dimensional stability.  Unlike many synthetic fibers that soften or melt at high temperatures, Nomex® maintains its structure and integrity, making it ideal for applications where heat and flame exposure are concerns. It also resists abrasion and mechanical stress, with consistent performance over long service life.

Nomex® Resistance Guide

Meta-aramid fibers, such as Nomex®, exhibit excellent resistance to high temperatures & flame, maintaining their mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures. This heat resistance makes them suitable for applications in thermal insulation and protective clothing. Additionally, meta-aramid fibers demonstrate good chemical resistance, enabling them to withstand short-term exposure to acids, alkalis, and many organic solvents without significant degradation.  Not advised for long-term chemical exposure.

This fiber will absorb atmospheric moisture up to 5% in weight. This fiber should be stored in a cool, dry room with low humidity. A desiccant bag was included with this fiber to prevent regain during transit and short-term storage at your facility.

Acid: Stable under most weak acidic environments.
Alkali: Generally compatible with mild alkalis.
Organic Solvent: Moderate degradation in Carbon Tetrachloride and Ethylene Glycol

Continuous Operating Temperature Range (°C): -196 to 204
Short Term Exposure (°C): 370
Degradation Temperature (°C): 427

Nomex® Meta-Aramid Performance Highlights

  • Thermal Stability: Maintains mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

  • Flame Resistance: Inherent meta-aramid structure resists ignition and burning.

  • Dimensional Integrity: Low shrinkage and stable under continuous heat stress.

  • Chemical Compatibility: Stable with many acids, alkalis, and solvents.

  • Insulative Properties: Good electrical and thermal insulation.

  • Moisture Resistance: Maintains performance in humid environments and resists many common industrial chemicals.

  • Durable & Long-Lasting: Resists wear and aging in high-temperature applications.
